York second grade students and their teachers spent a day at the historic Genesee Country Village and Museum in Mumford.
The students were fascinated by their step back in time to 19th-century Western New York. They learned about different cultures and their traditions. They also learned how traditions began (like why we decorate Christmas trees) and about stores and baking in the 1800s.
Their eyes widened and sparkled as the students met 19th-century St. Nick. It was a magical day, with a fresh coat of snow on the ground!

Let's celebrate these fine Golden Knights for displaying the characteristics of the Knights Way!
Hats off to Kindergartner Axel for being thoughtful, First Grader Gracelyn for being responsible, Kindergartner Roland for being accurate and precise with his writing, and Fourth Grader Rose for caring by sharing her snack with a classmate.
Fine examples of The Golden Knights Way!

Fourth grade students are learning the story of our State’s earliest settlers - The Iroquois, referred to by their Native American title, the Haudenosaunee.
The Iroquois Nation settled in the area that is now Upstate and Western New York. Six tribes comprised the Iroquois Nation: From east to west they are Mohawk, Oneida, Onondaga, Cayuga, and Seneca. The Seneca tribe established itself in our region and areas south of Lake Ontario.
Out of their study of the Iroquois Nation, students completed a research project that included a hands-on component to illustrate Native American life in New York State. Students chose from five different projects:
Build a model of an Iroquois longhouse, construct a salt or clay physical map showing the tribe’s locations, draw a mural showing the roles of Iroquois men and women, create a commonly used Iroquois toy, and build a model of an Iroquois or Algonquin canoe.
The students’ impressive projects were on display in the fourth grade hallway for all to view.

The annual York Golden Knights football tradition was carried on in 2024!
Alumni and current football teammates participated in this year's turkey bowl held on the YCS stadium field.
Players say this tradition has happened for more years than anyone could count.
Way to go knights- keep those important traditions going!

Explore the Possibilities!
Explore the Possibilities is a new addition to the sixth grade curriculum, aiming to help students do just that - explore their own career possibilities.
Throughout the school year students will hear from special guests about their chosen career and what are the steps to achieving their career goals.
Local baker Pam Battaglia, owner of Decadent D-Lights Bakery, visited York Middle/High School recently to talk about how she became a baker. She offered this advice to the students: "First think about what you like to do."
Mrs. Battaglia explained that it is important to choose a career you genuinely enjoy. She loves to bake and it was evident in her smile when she talked with the students about some of the baked goods she enjoys making. Many of the students have tasted Mrs. Battaglia's baked goods at events that she caters in the York area.
Of course, she did not visit the classroom empty-handed. Mrs. Battaglia gave each student a chocolate-drizzled croissant.
Thank you to Pam Battaglia of Decadent D-Lights Bakery for speaking with the sixth graders.

Happy Thanksgiving to all from the Golden Knights Family.
We are thankful for our school and community.

Let's talk turkey!
Junior Jaelyn Fanaro came into school on her recess day to serve donuts and coffee to the staff who faced a 12-hour day on Monday for parent-teacher conferences.
She is the President of the YCS Stand Up Club.
Jaelyn's cheerful smile infused the staff with energy for the day! The donuts and coffee may have helped, as well.
We are thankful for you, Jaelyn!
Drop a comment below and show her some gratitude!
Thank you Jaelyn

Use this form to recognize the efforts of our wonderful staff in supporting our students and/or other staff members.
https://forms.gle/PWYbn9JPNFsm1YyTA
The last day to nominate a staff member for November's recognition is Friday, December 6, 2024.
Each month the district is looking to recognize an Elementary, MHS and District wide staff member that has demonstrated one of the three YCS Vision qualities: Preparing, Challenging or Inspiring.
Feel free to nominate one staff member per submission.
Thank you, families and community, for all of your support for York Central School.

Even highly talented artists need a creative break once in a while!
On the Friday before Thanksgiving recess, Ms. Andrzejczak's AP Art students worked on a different kind of project; one that could be completed in one class.
Students created Rice Krispie turkeys - using their creativity to decorate them with common snack foods.
This was a creative and fun outlet for the students, Ms. A. said. When school resumes on December 2, students will return to learning and creating more complex artwork.

Civil Engineer Zach Anderson from Clark Patterson Lee recently talked with York High School students about engineering careers and the construction industry.
Mr. Anderson's visit is part of the Lunch-N-Learn series of career presentations, sponsored by the Livingston County Education Alliance.
The Livingston County Education Alliance is looking for other career presenters to inspire the next generation by visiting schools in our region. You'll be sharing your experience and passion for your career with students. You may contact them at 585-243-2222.
