Mrs. Steward's fifth-grade students partnered with Mrs. Stamp's second-grade students for partner reading. The students took turns reading to each other, and it was difficult to know who enjoyed this activity more, the young beginner readers or the older experienced readers, but many smiles were observed.

Big News! The chicks are coming! It is an exciting time in first and third grade classrooms as the students are eagerly awaiting the arrival of baby chicks. Six classes are participating in a study of incubation and embryology through a program offered by Cornell Cooperative Extension’s Ag in the Classroom. Each classroom has an incubator and a group of fertilized eggs. For 25 consecutive days, the students will observe the growing embryo inside the egg for changes and activity. Throughout the process, the classes will connect virtually with a CCE teacher to expand their learning about the lifecycle of a chicken. The students are very excited to work on this project. Stay tuned as the hatch days are ahead.

Mr. Benjamin Chatley’s eighth-grade students stepped into history with a recent visit to the National Warplane Museum in Geneseo, NY. There, they were guided around planes, uniforms, and memorabilia from World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. The students listened to first-hand accounts from volunteers, some of them veterans, and even the son of a York Graduate, Mr. Ian Mistretta, who is currently studying education at SUNY Geneseo and dressed in a World War II-era uniform. Students stated that their favorite part of the day was climbing aboard Whiskey 7, a veteran plane used during the invasion of Normandy, France in June of 1944. Many students said they hoped to visit the Warplane Musuem again, and even take a historic ride in the D-Day plane!

Congratulations to Juniors Madison Englebert (Animal Science), Adam Szczech (Conservation), and Kali Jaroszek (Cosmetology) on their induction into the National Technical Honor Society. Genesee Valley Boces held the traditional candlelit induction ceremony on April 3, 2025. Middle-High School Interim Principal Mr. Ken Ellison attended the ceremony and joined their families in celebrating the students' recognition. NTHS is the honor society for CTE students nationwide, recognizing those who go above and beyond in their studies and skill development. Established in 1984, NTHS has recognized over 1.2 million students across the country for their commitment to their career pathways. Note: Madison Englebert was not in attendance at the induction ceremony and therefore is not in the photo. York CSD is extremely proud of Madison, Adam and Kali and their demonstration of skills, scholarship, and academic excellence.

New York Times Best Selling Mystery Author April Henry visited the York Middle-High School Library to talk with students. Ms.Henry has authored 29 mystery books for teens and adults. A four-stripe white belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Ms. Henry says fight training has helped her become a better writer of thrillers and suspense novels. “Knowing a little something about surprise, pain and fighting back (from her Jiu Jitsu training) helps me write about them. After all, mysteries and thrillers often contain an element of violence,” she explained on her website. Middle-High School Librarian Kaitlin Kolb said Ms. Henry’s books are very popular with the students.
